Round III / Part II News

Congratulations to our CYCA teams that attended Bantam A and Bantam B Districts…

The following CYCA Teams move onto Southerns: 

Teams: Anwieler, Cinnamon, Claggett, Johnston, Kiist (Outsliders), Kobylnyk,

 Lawrence, McCauley (Rolling Stones), Molnar, Tourigny, & Wipf

Have all Qualified for Southern Alberta Bantam Playdowns.


The CYCA will be well represented in Coaldale, AB  – March 17th to March 19th.

Good Curling… we’ll be cheering for you all!

Reminder:  CYCA Team Managers – If your scores have not been submitted a this time…  your points will not be calculated for this season.




Upcoming dates:

March 18ththCYCA Friends and Family Bonspiel $60 in Airdrie Curling Club

March 19th – Sunday League Wind up, lunch and trophy presentation – Airdrie

Arrive:  10:30 am to 2:30 pm – Great new Format! 

March 17th to 19thBantam Southern Playdowns in Coaldale.  Good curling to all teams attending.  CYCA Teams, you’ve already made us proud!

March 27th – noon, deadline for SMA entries

May 13th and 14th – YYCFit at the BMO Center – Volunteers required

April 3rd – noon, deadline for the CYCA Award Nominations

June 14th – CYCA – Annual General Meeting at the Garrison CC 6:00 – 8:00 pm

June 17th – All Sport One Day – Southland Leisure Center – Volunteers required (morning only) 

The CYCA still have several opportunities to volunteer for this season – Please choose one of the following: 

  • If you prefer to NOT volunteer: Email and advise, we will retain your $75.

  • Double Deal offer: Join our CYCA Board of Director for 2017 – 2018 and we will apply give you Volunteer credit for the 2016 – 2017 season as well as the 2017 – 2018 season!!

Curling Camps:

Everyone should have received the Curling Camp email.
Wow, everyone is eager this season!

AB Rocks:  Both camps are both FULL!  Please feel free to register anyways, this will put you on the wait list, as well, it will help the ACF better plan for future years!

Delia Curling Camp:  offering three camps this year, the first week is full.

 Alberta Winter Game Trials…

Mixed Doubles Format – 2 person team – 1 Boy and 1 Girl
U15 as of December 31, 2017
Year of Birth 2002 – 2006


Trials – Pre-event Bonspiel is
November 4th and 5th at the Garrison CC

16 Teams will Qualify for the 2018 Winter Games in Fort McMurray.


AB Winter Games…

February 16th to 19th, 2018
Fort McMurray, AB

*** There is one Mixed Doubles spot left at the Garrison CC for their Mixed Doubles Spring League – $140/Team for 5 weeks of curling… please let me know if you’re interested!


Canada Winter Games…

February 14th to March 3rd, 2019
Red Deer, AB
These teams consist of traditional 4 boy or 4 girl teams.
Competitors shall be a maximum of 17 years of age on June 30, 2018.
Born on or after July 1, 2000.

 Start thinking about who you would like to nominate for the following awards:

 CYCA – Rick Dunsmore / Volunteer of the Year Award
Criteria:  In recognition of your significant time and effort supporting youth curling with a positive attitude and willingness to encourage fun for everyone!

Daina Anton – Friend of Youth Curling
Criteria:  To be given for outstanding volunteer service based on time, commitment, effort, attitude and willingness.

Junior Club Coordinator
Criteria:  To be given to a Junior Club Coordinator for their time, effort, development of a vibrant grass-roots program at the club level. 

Coach of the Year Award
Criteria:  To be given for an outstanding contribution towards a positive athlete and personal development of many youth curlers over the past year.
